| The Bowling House Circa 1787 Upper Marlboro MD |
'Content', also known as The Bowling House graces the Towne of Upper Marlboro with it's stature and presence. Lovingly restored and brought into the 21st century without losing its 18th century integrity.
Content has 3/4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, 5 working fireplaces, Georgia Pine Floors, original moldings, sweeping staircase, library, 18th century dining room chandelier, 5 zone heating, 3 sets of washer and dryers, Full lower level apartment/office with private entrance, 7 bay detached carriage house all nestled on over one acre. Close to Upper Marlboro Courthouse, governmnet buildings, equestrian center, shopping and major throughfares to Washington DC, Baltimore and Annapolis.
| Content is one of the oldest buildings remaining in Upper Marlboro. Construction on only two other buildings were begun earlier, The Kingston home and the Buck (James Wardrop) house. Content is the most original and untouched of the three. The several rows of terraces and falls around the house are typiacl of landscaping done in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Although no plantings remain it is remarkable in itself for the terraces to have survived. Content has always been owned by families who were prominent in the civic, economic and social affairs of Upper Marlboro, Prince George's County and the State of Maryland. These have included the magruder, Beanes and Lee families, as well as the Bowling family of the 20th century. Content is listed on the National Historic Property Registry |
