Historic Property Features

Registered in Vermont as a piece of Yakee history , built in 1827 by the Ironmaster Mr. Grainger? Col. Grainger .He built this house for his growing family when iron ore was discovered in nearby Chittenden & N. York State & transported by barge via Lake champlain & Otter Creek &finally the Furnace Brook where the ironworks & foundary still stand . Many features of his trade mark are still evident in the house ie. the Eagle & 2 stars on the lintels of all the windows of this property built in brick .Though ownership has changed at least 2, the ironworks was still used up to 1873 when the last sugaring pot or furnace was built here .

Even the Furnace Brook , 25 yds from the house is a piece of history- President Eisenhower is known to have fished here frequently for trout. .This is one of the 3 rivers left in Vt. that remains unstocked hence all the fish are indigenous to THIS area ONLY - I got a 5lbs trout last sunmmer !!

The town is a working agricultural community unlike others that surround us which have been gentrified to look " PRETTY" REAL people live , work & play here !! It has 4 covered bridges with a population of about 3800 people - All friendly & speak Vermont .

This house was recently modernised & updated to Vt.code for a B & B last year as State law required.
