Listed in the National Historical Register, this is a prominent home in the village and has a rich history. Bought in 1857 by Reverend Levi Parsons, the home stayed in the Parsons family until the early 1970's. Dr. Parsons was the reverend at the local Presbyterian Church from 1856 until his death in 1901.
Dr. Parsons co-authored 1794 - 1894 Mount Morris Centenary in 1894, and also has a book written about him titled Levi Parsons, DD (which is included with the house along with other historical items gathered by the current owners). In this book it is stated that Dr. Parsons enjoyed making changes to the house on a regular basis. When he bought the house in 1857, it was a flat-front farmhouse with a porch that ran the entire length of the house.
He made many changes to include adding the front parlor 1st and 2nd floor, adding the “tower” 1st and 2nd floor, raising the 1st floor interior ceilings to almost 10 feet, changing the 1st floor windows from farmhouse style to long, elegant windows, moving staircases and more! Most of the structural changes to the house took place in the 19th century, transforming the home from a farmhouse to an Italianate style home.
Some of the features of the house include:
- Arched double doors to the large formal dining room
- Front parlor bay window
- Refinished old growth pine floors (some boards almost 2 feet wide)
- Updated kitchen
- 1.5 bathrooms
- New basement windows (2004)
- New tankless water heater (2005)
- Fresh exterior paint (2003)
- Various landscaping additions
- Bright tower reading room
- Built-in bookcases in library
- Wood burning fireplace
- Spacious walk-in-closet in master bedroom
- Deep wooded lot
- And more!
Conveniently located only 6 hours from NYC, 3 hours from Toronto, 4 hours from Cleveland, and 1 hour from either Buffalo or Rochester, this home is close to everything! This home is in move-in condition, just waiting for someone to enjoy its rich history and life.
