PRICE REDUCED!: GA ANTEBELLUM GEM, fully renovated & landscaped, NEEL REID
Property History
The house was built c.1853 by Mr. Meade, the founder of the Georgia Academy for the Blind. It changed hands several times until it ended up with the Charles Wiley family in 1864. Wiley was a Colonel in the confederate army. After the Civil war he was Macon's chief of police and later was an elected judge. His daughter-in-law, Julia (Gambrell) Wiley, who continued to live in the house after her husband's death to care for Col. Wiley, is believed to be responsible for commissioning Neel Reid to renovate the house. Neel Reid (1885-1926) was one of Atlanta's most beloved architects. He came to Atlanta from Macon, GA. Many of the most magnificent homes he designed are in Buckhead, in Atlanta.

Property Description
The 1910 renovation by Neel Reid gives the house its unique charm and interest. The combination of Victorian elements and English Revival porch detailing create a distinctive addition to the otherwise heavily Victorian and Greek revival neighborhood. Reid's interior detailing, chamfered panels, elongated door architraves, Federal mantles and quarter-sawn oak flooring add a historical footnote to the Victorian-proportioned rooms with their tall ceilings and over-sized windows. The property is completely renovated and modernized. First floor: two parlors, large powder room, guest bedroom suite with full bathroom, foyer, kitchen with eating area, den with built in bookshelves and TV cabinet, formal dining room with two corner built in china cabinets, screened in porch off of kitchen/den. Second floor: four bedrooms (we use one as an entertainment/family gathering room), a laundry/recreation room, full bathroom off the hallway, master bedroom suite with master bath (Jacuzzi), shower, and two walk in closets. Third floor: additional loft bedroom with full bath. Basement: space to garage one car and lots of storage room. Large backyard with separate guest-house. This could be rented for $500/month if desired. Approximate square footage of house is 6000. Guest-house is 800.

Additional Notes
Eight fireplaces. All bathrooms updated. Kitchen newly remodeled with custom rock maple counter top. Beautiful front wrap around porch with swinging chair, ceiling fans. Newly landscaped garden, large space behind separate guest-house in back yard for vegetable/flower garden, or potential pool space. Front yard automatic sprinkler system. Hard wired house alarm system. Rarely does the opportunity arise to acquire one of Macon’s true architectural gems, especially one which has been so lovingly and thoroughly renovated in such a historically sensitive manner. This is one of Intown Macon’s most charming homes.
